The widget is the chat window that appears on your website. In HellouOne you decide how it looks, which screen it opens on, whether it shows your help center and what the button that opens it looks like. Every change shows live as you make it and reaches your site without touching the code.
Administrators set it up inbox by inbox: each website inbox has its own widget.
Where to set it up
Go to Settings → Inboxes, click the settings icon on your website inbox and open the Widget Builder tab. The options are on the left and a preview on the right, which you can view as desktop or as phone.
When you are done, press Update Widget Settings. Widgets already on your site pick up the change on their next page load; there is no new code to paste.
Brand
- Brand colour: used for the header and buttons. If you want buttons in another colour, untick Buttons use the brand colour.
- Theme: light, dark, or follow the visitor's device.
- Header style: solid colour or gradient.
- Opens on: the screen visitors see when they open the widget — Home, Chat or Help center.
Home screen
The home screen greets visitors and offers to message you or find an answer.
- Greeting and greeting subtitle: one per language. Pick the language from the list and write the text; a visitor whose language has no greeting sees the inbox's welcome heading.
- Show the team's avatars and show the expected reply time: turn them on so visitors know who answers and when.
Help center in the widget
If the inbox has a help center connected and Show the help center in the widget is on, the widget gains a Help tab: visitors search, browse topics and read your published articles without leaving the page. At the end of each article they are asked Was this helpful?, and if they still have questions they can press Still need help? Talk to us to message you.
To connect a help center, open the inbox's Settings tab and pick one under Help Center. With no help center, the widget shows no Help tab.
Before a message decides when the message button appears:
- Message any time: the button is always there.
- Help first: the button appears once the visitor has searched or read an article.
- Ask, then suggest: visitors describe their question, see matching articles, and can still send it.
You see what happens next in HellouOne:
- In Help Center → Articles, under each article's views you see the share of visitors who found it helpful. Hover to see how many voted.
- When someone messages you from an article, the conversation's sidebar shows Came from the article, with a link to the article they were reading.
Launcher
The round button that opens the widget. It shows the Hellou logo by default.
- Side: left or right.
- Icon: Hellou, chat or question.
- Launcher text: one per language. Leave it empty for an icon-only launcher. On phones the text is hidden unless you turn on Show the launcher text on phones too.
- Distance from the side and from the bottom, separately for desktop and phone.
- Dot on the launcher for unread replies and pulse the launcher once when the page opens.
- Hide the launcher: use it if you open the widget from a button of your own.
Shape and extras
- Corners of the panel and the launcher: from square to fully round.
- Mark replies written by an AI agent: shows an AI agent tag on those messages.
- Let visitors enlarge the widget on desktop.
- Show "Powered by HellouOne": removing it is included in the Enterprise plan.
The embed code
Press Show the embed code under the preview to copy it. You only need it once, for a site that does not have the widget yet.
If your team wrote options by hand into the code (for example the side or the launcher text), those options still take precedence over what you set here. The values the previous builder pasted by default do not count as written by hand, so widgets installed with it follow your changes.
If this browser saved settings from the previous builder, you will see a notice with an Import them button to bring them into the new editor.
